King Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

King.com Limited, trading as King and also known as King Digital Entertainment, is a video game developer based in St. Julian's, Malta, that specializes in the creation of social games. King gained fame after releasing the cross-platform title Candy Crush Saga in 2012, considered one of the most financially successful games utilizing the freemium model. King was acquired by Activision Blizzard in February 2016 for US$5.9 billion and operates as its own entity within that company. King is led by Riccardo Zacconi, who has served in the role of chief executive officer since co-founding the company in 2003.[1] Gerhard Florin took over Melvyn Morris's role as chairman in November 2014. As of 2017, King employs 2,000 people.

A former employee said this about King on Glassdoor in June 2020:

"HR is awful and have zero sympathies for anybody. Of course, HR are there to protect the company, but you would expect that if you report somebody to HR for breach of conduct they would take action instead of trying to make your life miserable. They refuse to make reasonable adjustments for people with a functional impairment such as allowing them to work for home and force them to take sick leave. When a global pandemic comes about no questions are asked and everybody gets sent home. Coworkers are generally very friendly people, but there are many jokes about racism, sexism and mental illness. Your manager is more likely to take pity with the person making these comments than with the people subjected to them, meaning that unless you push through and report this person anyway, they will never learn. The company seems to be too scared to take any really meaningful risks and spends all its money and resources on candy crush. Be prepared to sit around for 2 months without any direction or anything to do and when you eventually get back to work and it's hard to adjust, you will get blamed for not working hard enough in your performance review. Raises often don't even cover inflation. In many positions, skills are not very transferable and people get stuck in the company and find it difficult to find a new job. I do not recommend working here."

Senior Sales Representative (Former Employee) says

"New management now. Enjoy my co-workers, they work hard to get the job done. The best part of my day was speaking to our customers and assisting them with their needs. To accomplish and to fulfill their requirements was rewarding. Great customers and enjoyed my climb up the ladder. From Administrative Assistant to Director of Sales. Cons: no benefits"

Accounts Payable, Payroll Administrator (Former Employee) says

"Good company to work for, regular benefits including health insurance, dental, vision, supplemental, 401K, etc. Management is easy to work with. Environment is easy to work in."

Network Engineer Contractor (Former Employee) says

"Transition company to San Diego. Cons: salary"

SHIPPING CLERK (Current Employee) says

"I like my job, it just doesn't pay enough. I repair and refurb business telephones and systems. I packed the items, bill, and ship. I also am a material handler, pull parts, keep up with inventory, and i coordinate special events."

Accounting Assistant (Former Employee) says

"It was a good place to work and room for advancement.I got to not only do my bookkeeping Nd accounting responsibilities, I was also allowed to work in shipping/receiving and in the warehouseand help with inventory. Cons: Short breaks."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I worked at King full-time for more than a year Cons: - Management is toxic. The creative directors tend to be skilled and great people. Unfortunately, middle management and account manager types make this place toxic. - The working culture is opposite of their values. Ironic because the values are posted in bold letters on the office entry way. - Benefits decreased while I was there - Promotions are political instead of merit based"

"I worked at King full-time Cons: lazy co workers not friendly"

QA Tester/CR Liaison says

"I worked at King Cons: Poor communication, not a lot of guidance. A new position was needed in our office and I was moved into it in an effort to build it out/make it whole. I loved most of our CR team they were incredibly helpful, but I could see a lack of organization/communication there as well in their hierarchy. This was a new position. Leadership pretty much said hey, you're doing this so do it. No real guidance, no rules. Which was great. Until I tried making meetings that were continuously moved (priorities) and I fell in the cracks/was not set up for success. I had a huge presentation on this role w the Head of QA and was really excited about it, he was awesome. I got a call from the contract agency on a Thursday night (day before presentation) telling me that it was my last day at the company. I had no warning. No one had informed me that anything needed improvement. It was just the beginning and it wasn't a perfect process. I was never given any feedback on what could be better and the only thing needed clarification on had a meeting that Friday (after I was let go) to perfect/gain insight on how other leads wanted it done. The role was also to take things off of the plates of others, to communicate between departments. I went from nearly being converted to a full-time employee 2 weeks earlier, to not having a job at all. My supervisor and his supervisor had no idea that I was being let go. Which means someone higher up made the decision, someone that I suspect was very out of the loop which = poor communication."

Developer says

"I have been working at King for more than 5 years Cons: Very bad leadeship decisions towards people as people are seen only as disposable assets, you’re good till you start voicing your opinions No real progression opportunities Always redoing what others from the industry have already tried out, no real innovation Inclusion is just a sad website moto as King only deals with the sex/gender part creating more discrepancies on this matter"

Current Employee - Developer says

"I have been working at King full-time for more than 3 years Cons: No real scope for innovation, Senior leaders micromanage everything, too many .org changes and redundancies"

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I have been working at King full-time for more than a year Cons: Don't expect good technology and development methodologies here. Engineering standards are sub-par. People care more about delivering something quickly and not really ensuring that it is of high quality. Engineering leaders aren't necessarily tech visionaries nor former strong contributors in the craft but that seems to be true for other crafts as well. Regular employee satisfaction surveys are taken but no real changes or actions are actually put in place. Manager with consistently low ratings quarter after quarter is still in place after almost two years resulting in a lot of churn in the team."

Former Employee - Senior Technical Animator (Central Art Team) says

"I worked at King full-time for more than a year Cons: It was very messy in organising and managing combined with a blaming culture. Lots of politics and tribalism, combined with the constant flow of people being let go is making it a very inconfortable place to work. If you're in Barcelona, it's likely that you don't get to work so much for a game but spend lots of time filling R&D documents that main purpose is to allow the company to claim tax deductions. Some of the managers are experts in finding ways to justify their positions and pretending to be important, regularly creating waves out of thin air, starting and stopping empty initiatives, pushing people out and re-hirings etc. Some of the employees in Barcelona are very senior in their field but are still looked down by some managers in London, you get to hear them talking like Louis XVI while not knowing much, again.. the pretending is King."

Former Employee - Social Media Manager says

"I worked at King full-time for more than 5 years Cons: Used to have great people - they all left, used to pay a good salary - that changed wildly, used to care about the games they made - now they care about the stock price. They rarely promote from within. The "boys club" within the higher Marketing positions is the only real way to get promoted. If you're not in that, you will struggle. The newer management (2015 onwards) from mid-level up is based on nepotism and showcases some of the worst decisions of employment around. Accountability is rare, with blame and finger pointing the main tool of progression over excellence and quality of work. Up until 2016, this was the best place to work with the best people you could find. It inherently got worse over time with many duds slipping through the net. Exiting the company regardless of loyalty given over your tenure is horrendous. HR is awful in this area especially (I sought legal counsel twice) so expect cold shoulders, maximum non-compete enforced, and no congratulations on future endeavours. It was once a mighty force in the industry, now it's the equivalent of doing an AMA on 8chan..."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I have been working at King full-time for more than 5 years Cons: - A once exciting and vibrant company feels like it doesn't quite know where it's going and how to compete with ever-growing competition. There's a definite sense of panic in the company which is impacting how they make decisions - Lack of risk-taking and innovation. King is not a games company, it's a Candy Crush maintenance machine. Not many exciting prospects for projects in London - Stopped listening to their employees on a lot of issues - they don't really seem to care what the people within the teams actually have to say anymore - Over the last few years can really see the more corporate influence of Activision on decisions made - cost cutting exercises without consideration of employees or product quality - People are lovely but many in the game studios are young and inexperienced and can be very entitled - Unprofessional behaviour - confidential info is regularly leaked. Level of gossip is like being back at school - Lack of real leadership - for a company at this scale they should know how to do things by now, but they often fail at very basic production methods to prioritise work - Constantly talk about intention to take risks and empower teams, but all I see as time has passed is the opposite happen - playing it too safe, and becoming a more top-down decision making company"

"Bowling King is suck a fraudulent hack. Wish these people could be real. Don’t play this lame game"

cindy russo says

"Soda crush Saga ripped me off when I was offered a special booster package. I purchased it it told me my payment went through, but nothing happened. No boosters. I tried again.....and once again it took my money but no boosters. I immediately stopped playing and contacted the soda crush support. They responded requesting the copies of the transactions, which I provided. I get an email in return saying they saw nothing on their end and I received the boosters. NOPE! That is untrue. IF I had received my booster package then how is it that I was able to request it again? You have to reach a milestone in order for it to be offered. Not only that....there was two purchases a minute or less apart. If that isn't proof enough then there is some fraudulent stuff going on. I have deleted my King games from all of my devices. Never again."

Brian says

"This company overcharges again and again and again. I’ve had enough and I’ve deleted their game. What happens is that you make an in app purchase, but are billed two or three times. When you contact them the computer generated response refers you to Apple. Apple refers you back to King. It’s only small amounts of money, but they all add up. It’s not worth the stress dealing with a fraudulent and untrustworthy company."

Greg McDaniels says

"The games are alright and somewhat fun to play, at first. Unfortunately, it becomes very obvious how they are rigged to force the player to either, pay money to advance or replay the same level over and over again, trying to move forward. Most of the people I know have finally stopped playing, due to the rigging of the games and the greed of the company."

Julie says

"Giving me the runaround. Game charges me double and magically deletes my boosters, when I write, the emails go back and forth with NO resolution. They refer me to Apple, Apple refers me to them. I attach the photos, receipts, they reply with “we have not heard from you so we will close the ticket.this company is in Malta, getting rich off of us suckers. No more. As much as I love their games, they are getting deleted today."

steve says

"Have been playing alphabetty on pc since 2015. Now it won't load. What gives? Is this because Flash is going away? No explanation from King."

Keisha Geiger says

"My mom got money taking from her social security card and it's showing where Game King took it. Nobody don't need to go thru this in time like this so please give my mom money back!!!"

Adam says

"Tried to delete my account. It's not possible. They send you a reply stating they need some more information. (Even though the link is only visible when logged in. So you send it anyway. Then you get another reply saying as we haven't heard we have closed the ticket. Avoid giving any person details or allowing social media connection."

Kathy Morgan Jesperson says

"They owe me $63.59 for a refund that they promised I would receive. I still have the email about the refund approval. However, I will never get this money back, ever. I finally just deleted the game and gave up. Beware of this company's shenanigans."

Darcell Duhon says

"I would really appreciate it if you guys would stop rigging the candy crush games, it’s starting to get annoying and it’s making me not want to play anymore. Ok carry on."

Mandie Diaz Sevilla says

"I had ordered a PlayStation and I have never received it"

Paul William Dixon says

"King MUST bring back the sugar drops in Candy Crush, if not I'm going to quit the game."

Jammice Nia Mcfall says

Izzy West says

"I have been accused of sending abusive messages . I don't send any messages , I keep myself to myself . I have been a member for 11 yrs and support have seen fit to believe this untrue allegation and can not evidence any wrong doing . I pride myself on honesty and respect for everyone so this has caused me undue stress . Support is totally ineffectual and don't realise that by not believing me and doing their job by investigating they are endorsing the bad behaviour of a player that likes to cause trouble by telling lies ."

Lisa Rellihan Key says

"This company has absolutely NO interest in the customers satisfaction. I used to play Candy crush (all), farm heros, bubble witch, and more, but when I began having technical problems I quit. I sent an email for help because the issue wasn't addressed in QA. Automated response was totally unrelated to the issue and it was quite evident that no human was involved. I called. Same thing. I sent another email. This time voicing my frustration. 2 months went by with no response. I deleted all my King games and will not recommend them to anyone. They can pay the big bucks for actors in ads but can't worry about the money I lost or whether or not you have a problem."

S. Houghton says

"Very disappointing! Account locked for almost a week now, unable to finish tournaments and diploma. Asking the question why the account is locked there was one reply only stating they'll need to carry out a security check and asked for passport copy. Sent the same day and never heard back, no acknowledgement, no answer, no way to raise a complaint either. Unacceptable. Got hocked by the welcome bonus and made another deposit with bonus and now have over £100 frozen in my locked account and no idea when or if this will be resolved. Very quick in taking your money and very complicated in getting it back. Should have read the small print, you'll have to turn over 4 x the welcome bonus to be able to withdraw, which would probably take a lifetime, given they'll ever unlock my account. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional, strongly recommend to play for fun only (if at all) and never deposit money."

FJA says

"Don't download or play these games. I have deleted most of the King games that I've downloaded over the years because they perform poorly and steal your boosts and lives. After the most recent issue with Papa Pear malfunctioning and stealing lives and boosts and a really poor response from Customer Care, I have decided to delete the few King games that I kept. There are much better games out there that don't crash, freeze or steal your money and progress !"

Vape Man says

"Lost 856,238 gems in shufflecats. Worth over 400 UK Pounds. KING Care wont respond to my emails requesting support. Just an automatic reply to reach out to the user forum for help. Don't bother with king.com total waste of money and time. They will rip you off if they can get away with it."
